Ghaziabad: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has notified revised toll rates for the Delhi-Meerut Expressway that will come into effect from April 1. Vehicles like cars/jeeps will now have to pay Rs 155 instead of Rs 140 for the ride from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut, which was fixed in December 2021.
Likewise, the rates for commercial vehicles have been hiked from Rs 225 to Rs 245. The toll will, however, not be charged from Sarai Kale Khan to Dasna, but vehicles that exit in Meerut will be charged for the entire distance they travel on the expressway. The ban on two-wheelers and other slow-moving vehicles will, however, remain on the high-speed corridor, according to TOI.
The Delhi-Meerut Expressway stretches 59.77 kilometres from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Partapur in Meerut with the final toll plaza being located at Kashi. “The decision on whether to introduce a toll on the DME has finally been taken. As expected, the rates have been hiked as compared to what was released in December last year,” a senior NHAI official told TOI.
According to the revised rates, cars, SUVs, vans and other private light motor vehicles have to pay Rs 155 for using the Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut stretch of the expressway. For light commercial vehicles, including minibus, the toll rates on the said stretch have been fixed at Rs 245. Buses and trucks with two axles will have to pay Rs 520 for plying on the same stretch, while it’s Rs 990 for oversized vehicles having seven or more axles.
According to NHAI, the annual toll collection potential on the expressway is estimated to be about ₹111.39 crores, with cars/jeeps/light motor vehicles accounting for about 82% of the traffic and bus/trucks accounting for 14%.
The DME is an access-controlled expressway that can be accessed from seven places -Sarai Kale Khan, Indirapuram, Dundahera, Dasna, Rasoolpur Sikrod, Bhojpur and the Kashi toll plaza.
