Uttar Pradesh: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea by Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan seeking to quash the charge sheet in the fake birth certificate case of his son. Notably, Azam Khan filed a plea in the Top Court challenging an order of the Allahabad High Court refusing to dismiss the said charges against his son.
A bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and Vikram Nath said that the SC did not find any reason to interfere with the order of the High Court.
SP leader Azam Khan, his wife Tazeen Fatima and son Abdullah Azam Khan were jailed in connection with a case registered against them over allegations Abdullah Khan had two fake birth certificates issued through unethical means from two different places.
An FIR was filed by BJP leader Akash Saxena at the Ganj police station in Rampur in connection with the matter on January 3, 2019. The FIR alleged that Azam Khan and his wife helped their son obtain two fake birth certificates, one from Lucknow, and one from Rampur.
SP leader Azam Khan on July 23 urged the Uttar Pradesh government to reinstate his 'Z' category security, citing 'many threats' faced by him and his family. "I have many threats, my family has many threats. I appeal to the Uttar Pradesh government to return my 'Z' category security. Right now I have 'Y' category security which is of no relevance," the senior SP leader said.
The Yogi Adityanath-led UP government in 2017 had downgraded the security cover of over 100 politicians including Khan, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple and other members of the Yadav family.
