Mumbai: A day after Eknath Shinde took oath as the Maharashtra chief minister, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray removed him as a leader of Shiv Sena on Friday.
The decision to remove Shinde from the party has come in the wake of his claim to the legacy of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and calling himself a "true" Shiv Sainik.
Eknath Shinde recently led a rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray which ultimately resulted in the fall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra. Following Thackeray's resignation, Shinde took oath as the chief minister on Thursday.
Shinde has named the rebel group 'Shiv Sena Balasaheb', triggering a war with the Thackeray family. He even changed his Twitter display picture, the one featuring him and the late Sena founder.
Earlier in the day, Uddhav Thackeray refused to recognise Shinde as a Sena chief minister and attacked the BJP over the recent political crisis in the state.
While addressing party leaders and workers in Mumbai, the Shiv Sena chief said, "Those, who have formed the new government, have made a so called Shiv Sainik as CM. I was saying the same thing 2.5 years ago."
"The same formula was decided between me and Amit Shah that Shiv Sena and BJP will share the CM position for half term each. Whatever is happening today would have happened with respect," he added.
