The model and actress, who made her debut with the 1994 film Aag, is to date remembered for her iconic beauty soap commercial which earned her the tag of husn pari. From her infectious smile to her svelte figure, Sonali was undoubtedly one of the most gorgeous b-town beauties.
But not many know that she faced body shaming back in the day. Yes, you read that right. The Hum Saath - Saath Hain actress, in a recent interview, spoke about her experience in the industry. She said that she was ridiculed for being skinny and not having a voluptuous figure, which was the standard of beauty in the 90s.
Opening up about facing skinny-shaming, the Sarfarosh actress told Bollywood Bubble, "Being skinny was definitely not the standard of beauty, so voluptuousness was the standard of beauty, and I was told you were just not a woman enough if you were not voluptuous, you know which it shouldn’t be."
Sonali went on to stress the importance of body positivity. " I do agree body shaming should not have any part in our society and especially little girls and the kind of ideas they are growing with and the crazy dieting people are doing. People are forgetting that it is not holistic," she said.
On the work front, the actress was recently seen in The Broken News. The show which marked Sonali's OTT debut also starred Jaideep Ahlawat and Shriya Pilgaonkar in pivotal roles.
