New Delhi: A 10-year-old boy has passed away due to complications from his injuries, which were caused after he was allegedly sodomised by two minor friends and his cousin. The incident reportedly occurred on September 18 in the Seelampur area of Delhi.
While two of the suspects have been apprehended, the third is still at large. One of the two people who were held in custody was brought before a Juvenile Justice Board, news agency IANS reported.
An official stated that despite the incident occurring on September 18, it wasn't until September 22 that they received word from the LNJP Hospital that a boy, around the age of 10, had been admitted due to a serious physical assault.
The parents of the child were met by a police team as soon as they arrived at the hospital, but Sanjay Kumar Sain, the deputy commissioner of police for the northeast district, said they did not provide any statement.
The DCP claimed that despite frequent contact from the Investigative Officer, to whom the call was marked, the family did not provide a statement until September 24, IANS reported.
The police arranged for a counsellor from "Sakhi" to meet with the mother of the injured child on September 24.
After receiving extensive counselling, the mother of the child alleged that her son was physically abused and sodomised by his three friends on September 18.
Police launched an investigation into the incident and filed an FIR under sections 377 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with section 6 of the POCSO Act.
It was discovered during the investigation that the victim and the accused boys were neighbours and friends and that they are both between the ages of 10 and 12, IANS reported.
One of the accused persons is a cousin of the victim.
