'Vatsala' is said to be the oldest and the only elephant to be living beyond 100 years

Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Susanta Nanda took to Twitter on Sunday to give his followers a close-up view of Vatsala, an elephant from Panna believed to be the world's oldest and the only and to be living beyond 100 years. Vatsala lives in Madhya Pradesh's Panna Tiger Reserve. Although it has been reported several times in the past that she is oldest elephant in the world, her name never appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records. Nanda said she is much older than Changalloor, who died at the age of 89 in 2009. He wrote: "Vatsala of Panna is credited to be the oldest living elephant at 105 years, older than the Changalloor, which died at the age of 89. Played a stellar role in the monitoring of tigers during reintroduction." According to Guinness, the oldest elephant in captivity ever was Lin Wang, an Asian elephant (Elephas maximus), who died on 26 February 2003 aged 86, at Taipei Zoo, Taiwan.
