New Delhi: Congress veteran Salman Khurshid, on Friday said that he was at the protest site in the national capital to 'save' his leaders, who in turn 'would save him'. Upon being questioned about the BJP's taunt that saving the 'family' was the reason behind protests, which are being carried out at a time when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified the action against Rahul Gandhi and his mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Khurshid said that the real issues are joblessness, price rise, and inflation.
Responding to the BJP's allegations that Congress workers were protesting across the country to save the 'family', Khurshid said - "Why will I come to save the family? I'll come to save my leader, my leader saves me. I have no issue if they make this a definition of family."
Not a satyagraha, attempt to save family: Nadda
Last week, BJP chief JP Nadda had slammed the congress and claimed that the protests were not a Satyagraha, but an attempt to save the Gandhi family "This is not a Satyagrah. It is an attempt to hide the truth behind all these protests. These protests are neither for the country nor for their party. This is just an attempt to save one family," Nadda had said.
Chaos was witnessed in Delhi as Congress workers took to streets claiming to protest against price rise, inflation and joblessness. Several leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Jairam Ramesh, Rahul Gandhi and others were detained as they continued to protest despite the imposition of Section 144 in certain parts of the national capital.
Earlier during the day, while addressing a press conference, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions against his family were being initiated because he was raising a voice against the government. Gandhi alleged that democrary was dying in India and claimed that the government was unwilling to debate on key issues such as price rise, inflation and unemployment.
