Guwahati: The floods in Assam claimed five more lives on Sunday even as the situation improved as the number of affected by the deluge people declined to over 18.35 lakh from the previous day’s 22.17 lakh, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
In a daily bulleting released on the day, the ASDMA said that the five persons drowned at various places in Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Nagaon and Sivasagar districts during the day.
With this, the death toll due to the flood and landslides in Assam rose to 179 across the state this year, the bulletin stated.
More than 18,35,500 people remained affected due to the flood across 23 districts of the state, the bulletin said.
