Early BO trends show Ponniyin Selvan 1 trumping Vikram Vedha despite lesser screens

Even though Vikram Vedha released in a total of 5640 screens across the world, with 4007 in India and 1633, overseas, latest reports suggest that Ponniyin Selvan 1, which released in lesser screens is faring better.

Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 1 and director duo Pushkar and Gayatri's Vikram Vedha both released in theatres on September 30. While PS1 has an ensemble of heavyweight stars in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi etc, Vikram Vedha is headlined by two of Bollywood's biggest in Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan.

Earlier today, film producer and business expert Girish Johar tweeted about Vikram Vedha's day 1 business being, "below par," writing, "Mass regions not board & lack of aggressive promotions is showing on #EarlyTrends #BOEstimates for day 1 #VikramVedha..touching a double digit, strictly below par ! Hope wknd does get the desired push at #BoxOffice"

Johar, however, added that PS1 in comparison is doing better, writing, "#PS1 all langs Home BO near ₹22crs+, lesser screens superr !"
As per reports, the Hindi versionof Ponniyin Selvan 1 peformed decently on day 1, with collections closing in around the Rs 1.5 to 2 crore nett mark.
Notably, the film, based on the historical serialised Tamil fiction by Kalki Krishnamurthy shows promise among Tamil audiences owing to the huge popularity of its source material.
The film marks director Mani Ratnam's 25th project and also stars Jayram Ravi, Aishwarya Lekhsmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj among others. IT has music bt AR Rahman and has been produced by Ratnam as well.
Meanwhile, as per reports, the second part of PS, Ponniyin Selvan 2 has already been shot and the post production is underway. As per a south news website, the second part of Ponniyin Selvan will be released in theatres during summer 2023 and makers will soon give out an official information.
