5G launched in India by PM Modi: Here is when Jio and Airtel will roll out services

India Mobile Congress: 5G has been officially launched in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched 5G services in India today, as part of the India Mobile Congress event. But the exact timeline for when we will get to use 5G services in different parts of the country, will depend on when telecom providers plan to roll out the services. As part of the first day of IMC, both Airtel and Reliance Jio have shed some light on their plans. Read on to know more.

Airtel's 5G announcement

Airtel’s chairman Sunil Mittal has revealed that the telecom operator will be rolling out 5G services in select cities starting today. The executive further added that Airtel plans to add support for 5G services all over India as soon as possible and 5G will first be available in about 8 cities.

While Mittal did not reveal the names of the 8 cities, he did confirm that Delhi, Varanasi, Mumbai, Bangalore and four other cities will start getting Airtel 5G services from today.

Airtel's chairman also said that the company plans to bring support for 5G services across the entire country by March 2024.

Jio's announcement

As of now, Reliance Jio hasn’t revealed the exact launch date for when it will launch 5G services. However, RIL’s Chairman Mukesh Ambani did say that India is late in delivering 5G services and the company hopes to offer 5G services to each and every part of India by December 2023. What this effectively means is that Jio is aiming to roll out 5G services for everyone way before what Airtel is promising.

Additionally, Ambani has also confirmed that Jio 5G plans will be available at the lowest rates in the world. Reliance Jio had previously announced that it would start the rollout of 5G by Diwali, so one can expect it to arrive in the coming weeks.

Additionally, Vodafone Idea has also promised to soon begin the rollout of the latest network in India.
