KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Navdeep Saini continued his dream run in County Championship for Kent
  • On a day where just 34.2 overs were bowled, Saini picked up three wickets against Lancashire
  • Saini had taken 7 wickets on his Kent debut last week including a fifer
The Indian players have been making all the right noises in the ongoing County Championship and Navdeep Saini is the recent name, who has made a dream start to his career. Saini, who made his debut in the Championship last week against Warwickshire, impressed one and all with his figures of 5/72 and 2/39 in the two innings as Kent won the game by 177 runs.
A few days later, Saini continued his outstanding run and despite it being a rain-shortened first day, he was the wrecker-in-chief for Kent in their away game against Lancashire.
Only 34.2 overs were possible on the first day at Old Trafford in Manchester but Saini didn't forget to leave his mark and the opposition in trouble. Kent skipper Sam Billings chose to bowl first due to overcast conditions and Saini proved his decision right with a couple of strikes quite early.
Lancashire openers Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells started well and seemed to have played out the difficult period only for Saini to dismiss the former on 14 in the 10th over of the innings.
Wells and Josh Bohannon then stitched a crucial 44-run stand for the second wicket but Nathan Gilchrist broke the partnership by dismissing the latter on 27.
Wells continued to build on his start alongside skipper Steven Kroft but only for a certain period of time as Saini had more destruction in store. He first dismissed the set Wells on 35 and on the very next delivery accounted for Rob Jones to reduce the home side to 97/4.
Washington Sundar was the next batter for Lancashire and Kroft faced Saini on his hat-trick ball, the first delivery of his next over. Kroft played him out but Lancashire are still in trouble at 112/7 at the end of the day's play.
Saini will be hoping to add a few more wickets to his tally while Washington Sundar, fresh from his fifer, will be eyeing a few runs with the bat as well.
