Health Minister reviews vaccination program; directs States, UTs to ramp up testing and vaccination

New Delhi: Union Minister for Health Dr Mansukh Mandaviya today chaired a meeting with State and UT Health Ministers to review the progress of Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 campaign, which is the government's door-to-door Covid vaccination drive. Amid the rise in Covid cases, the health minister directed states and UTs to increase testing.
States including UTs were also directed to strengthen surveillance & focus on genome sequencing for identifying new variants & adherence to Covid Appropriate Behavior. Union Health Minister urged States to focus on implementing the Operational Guidelines for Revised Surveillance Strategy for COVID-19.
While reviewing the Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 campaign, Manuskh Mandaviya said “Let us accelerate our efforts to identify all beneficiaries in the 12-17 age group for first doses, so that they can attend schools with the protection of Covid vaccine.” States were directed to focus coverage of 12-17 age groups through school-based campaigns along with targeted coverage of non-school going children during the summer vacation.
State Health Ministers were urged to also review administration of precaution dose to 18-59 years age-group with the private hospitals on a regular basis. States were also advised to ensure that there is no wastage of COVID-19 vaccines at any cost. This must be ensured through active monitoring & based on the “First Expiry First Out '' principle.
Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, MoS, Minister of Health said, "Covid vaccination program should be accelerated in the States through Har Ghar Dastak2.0 campaign."
India in the past 24 hours reported 8,084 new Covid cases, 4,592 recoveries & 10 deaths. Daily positivity rate is 3.24% & weekly positivity rate 2.21%. There are 47,995 or 0.11% active Covid cases across India with recovery rate at 98.68%.
