Former Chief Minister of Punjab and BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday rained down hard on the ruling AAP government in the state over the Khalistan issue. Singh further expressed confidence that BJP will form government in both Punjab and Center.
"Government needs to crack down on the issue of Khalistan. Khalistan slogans weren't raised during my tenure as I took strict steps. Law and order is state subject. They (the Punjab government) are not doing anything. BJP will form govt both in Punjab and the Center," said Capt Amarinder Singh.
Notably, Capt Amarinder Singh joined the BJP last month after exiting Congress last year. Singh also merged his newly formed Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) with the BJP.
Congress leaders termed Singh's move as a 'wrong decision.' "I believe this is a wrong decision taken by Capt Amarinder Singh. Right after the farmer's protest, his decision of joining the BJP will not be appreciated by the people," said Congress MP Deepender Hooda.
On the other hand, numerous incidents of Khalistan slogans being raised were reported in Punjab recently. Khalistani slogans were found written at several places across Jalandhar in August a day before CM Bhagwan Mann's visit to the city.
Earlier in July, Karnal Police had arrested a Patiala-based man for writing such slogans on the walls of two educational institutions in June. During the questioning, the man, identified as Manjeet, had said that a US-based person had promised him to pay $1,000 for the job.
In Himachal Pradesh as well, a Punjab resident was arrested for allegedly putting Khalistani flags and writing slogans on the walls of Himachal Assembly in the Dharamsala city in April, Chief Minister Jairam Thakur had informed.
