Surat Crime Branch nabbed some members of the Cheeklighar gang in Surat after a brief hot chase.

Surat: A video showing over a dozen of youths holding ‘lathis’, hurling abuses, and banging a moving car occupies by at least three persons went viral on social media platforms today. The incident took place in Bardoli Town of Surat rural in Gujarat on Tuesday morning.

However, when the details of the incident unfolded, the youths chasing the occupants of the car were not civilians. In fact, they turned out to be the police officers of the Surat City Crime Branch.

They were reportedly chasing some members of the gang of ‘chikhligar’ who are wanted in 16 offences including robbery and other illegal activities. However, after a Bollywood plot-like hot chase, the Crime Branch officers finally managed to catch the three of the gang members.

As per a report of The Indian Express, the Surat Crime Branch sleuths, acting on a tip-off from a reliable source, waited at Mojana Gate outside Bardoli town of Surat district on Tuesday early morning. As the speeding eco car approached, the officers in plain clothes, holding wooden sticks, tried to stop the vehicle.

However, the car occupants did not stop and continued driving. Anticipating the action, the Crime Branch sleuths had already parked a JCB machine a few metres away in the middle of the road which had a ditch on both the sides of the road.

Seeing the JCB placed ahead, when the driver of the car slowed down, the officers banged the vehicle and broke its window glasses, and damaged the body of the car, reported The Indian Express.

In the meantime, the confused locals who were present at the spot captured the scene on their mobile phones.

Crime Branch officials said that the three gang members were involved in several theft and robbery cases. The sleuths came to know about them after one of the gang members was caught a day ago and revealed the names of other members and their whereabouts.

The Crime Branch is yet to disclose the names of the arrested criminals, as per The Indian Express report.
