Chandigarh: A close accomplice of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi escaped the custody of Punjab police on Sunday. The gangster identified as Deepak Tinu was also charge-sheeted in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case.
Deepak Tinu escaped after he was being transported from the Mansa jail of Punjab by a police team. According to sources, Deepak Tinu was taken out of jail in a private vehicle by the police team as a part of the investigation of another case he was allegedly involved in. It is unknown why there were not enough personnel accompanying the gangster and also why the team opted for a private vehicle instead of departmental ones
Deepak Tinu is believed to be among the closest confidants of Lawrence Bishnoi. Tinu is said to have aided the murder of Sidhu Moosewala by providing logistics. He was reportedly also in touch with Goldy Brar ahead of the murder.
The Punjab police have launched a major manhunt to arrest the escaped gangster.
Earlier in June, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Sidhu Moosewala murder case had said that Lawrence Bishnoi confessed to having hatched the plan to eliminate the singer in August last year. The gangster wanted to avenge the murder of Vicky Middukhera by killing Moosewala.
Canada-based Goldy Brar, who is a member of the Bishnoi gang, had claimed responsibility of the murder. According to Punjab Anti-Gangster Task Force chief Pramod Ban, the shooters reached Mansa on May 25. AK series assault rifles were used in the killing that happened on 29 May 2022, he had said.
