Tamil Nadu: Couple dupes six people of Rs 40 lakh on pretext of providing government job; held

A couple was arrested for allegedly cheating of Rs 40 lakh from six people on the pretext of giving government jobs in Cuddalore. The accused woman posed as the Ariyalur sub-collector. Based on his complaint to Cuddalore SP S Sakthi Ganesan, the district crime branch launched an inquiry.

Tamil Nadu: A couple was arrested for allegedly cheating of Rs 40 lakh from six people on the pretext of giving government jobs in Cuddalore. The accused woman posed as the Ariyalur sub-collector. When victims asked for their money, the accused issued them death threats, said police. The accused have been identified as Sudhakar (44) and his wife Sagaya Vinnarasi (42), The New Indian Express reported.
J Jayamadavasarathy (34) recently met Sudhakar and his wife Sagaya Vinnarasi of Peruvarappur village. After Vinnarasi introduced herself as sub collector who claimed to know government officials, the duo collected Rs 11 lakh from the victim. Later, he did not secure employment, he asked for the amount but received only Rs 1 lakh.
Based on his complaint to Cuddalore SP S Sakthi Ganesan, the district crime branch launched an inquiry and discovered that the couple also cheated others. A case was filed. Police said both confessed to the crime. In her statement, Vinnarasi reportedly said she married Sudhakar after the death of her first husband, pretended to be a sub-collector to swindle people and live a luxurious life.
Recently, the special operations team of Siliguri police arrested two persons for duping a youth by promising him a job in the Indian army. The accused have taken Rs 3 lakh from the youth. The accused have been identified as Sanjay Kumar and Manoj Kumar from Patna.
The duo came in touch with a youth of Uttar Pradesh and offered him an army job around a month ago. The youth paid them Rs 25,000 online as an advance amount, The Telegraph reported.
