New Delhi: A day after the Centre imposed a ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI) for a period of five years, Delhi Police is on high alert in order to maintain the law and order situation in the national capital. Police activity has amplified in different areas. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCPs) in different dist have also taken to the streets to take stock of the situation - Delhi Police said in a statement.
Visuals shared by agencies showed heavy patrolling in various parts of the national capital. North West district DCP and other district DCPs conducted patrolling in their respective jurisdictions, the police said, adding that additional police forces will also be deployed in sensitive areas of the national capital so that immediate action can be taken in case of any untoward incident.
Tamil Nadu, Kerala governments ban PFI following Centre's orders
Section 144 was imposed in parts of Delhi a day before the PFI ban, when the probe agencies conducted several raids on PFI cadres across the country. More than 150 PFI members were detained by the agencies a day before the ban was imposed. The Centre has also banned all the organizations affiliated to PFI for their alleged involvement in terror activities.
Meanwhile, following the Centre's move, the Tamil Nadu government issued an order declaring PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts as an unlawful association. Shortly later, the Kerala government also issued an order declaring PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts as an unlawful association.
