Monsoon rains likely to hit southern Gujarat on June 13, heavy downpour expected

Ahmedabad: After a cloudy and humid day led to a cooler Sunday night in Gujarat, the Meteorological department officials deemed it a part of pre-monsoon activity and predicted the official arrival of monsoon in southern Gujarat to likely be on Monday. Heavy showers were recorded in Mahisagar district and some other parts of the State today.

Scattered rainfall was recorded in several parts of the city last night, bringing the temperature down. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius, which was almost same as the normal, whereas minimum temperature at 29.2 degrees was 1.3 degrees higher than normal.

70 talukas of Gujarat recorded at least 1mm rainfall on Sunday till 8pm with Santrampur in Mahisagar district recording 75mm and Junagadh taluka and city recording 43mm rainfall each. Viramgam near Ahmedabad received 2mm rain.

“Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into some parts of north Arabian sea, remaining parts of Konkan, some parts of Gujarat state, most parts of Madhya Maharashtra, entire Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, some parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West central & northwest Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours,” mentioned a forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

Monsoon usually sets in Gujarat from June 15. The Met department officials said that the monsoon is likely to keep the date even as this year the advancement is skewed with several parts of southern peninsula waiting for the arrival of rains.

IMD forecast for the next four days has indicated likelihood of rains in all districts of Gujarat - but it's likely to be light showers or thunderstorms.
