R Madhavan, who will next be seen in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, recently lauded the accomplishments of the protagonist of the biopic, former scientist Nambi Narayanan.
Madhavan claimed that when compared to what Nambi was able to accomplish in real life, James Bond, the fictional British Secret Service agent from the Bond film series had not accomplished much at all.
Madhavan claimed in an interview with Bollywood Hungama that he felt obligated to cut true events from the movie in order to keep it from being too unbelievable for casual viewers. In the 1990s, Narayanan was detained on suspicion of spying but the Supreme Court later found him not guilty.
Madhavan said, “When I met Nambi Narayanan, I was intrigued by the fact that he was only talking about the case, about how he was wronged, about how they would almost kill him in jail, torture him and beat him…”
Rocketry's writer, director, and producer, Madhavan admitted that when he first began working on the production, he was shocked to learn about Nambi Narayanan's accomplishments. He observed that the former ISRO scientist and aerospace engineer who was wrongly charged with espionage only discussed the allegations against him and never spoke of his accomplishments. The actor questioned Nambi about why he only discussed the subject after being found innocent, and Nambi gave him an unexpected response.
Madhavan said that when he told Nambi the controversy was over, Nambi advised him to Google his name and see the results, and indeed, the majority of news headlines concerning him deal with his arrest. Madhavan continued, "He said, 'you, I, the court know I am innocent, but go to Google and put my name,' and sure enough when you put his name it says ISRO spy case. I understood the angst that he had, but what shocked me more, was the fact that he was given the Padma Bhushan, and nobody knows why. When his achievements came to life when I came to know what he did as the first Ivy League scientist from India in Princeton under Professor Louis D Croco or the fact that he went to France with 52 scientists..."
Rocketry: The Nambi Effect will release on July 1. In addition to Hindi, Tamil, and English, the film was simultaneously dubbed in Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. This film is Madhavan's first endeavour as a director.
