Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri took to his Twitter account to take a dig at Kaali director Leena Manimekalai over her defence of the controversial poster of her documentary film. Leena has been accused of hurting religious sentiments with the ‘highly objectionable’ poster that was released last week.
Reacting to one of Leena’s tweets in which she elaborately defended the infamous poster, The Kashmir Files director counted her among ‘crazy wokes’. In her tweet, Leena had shared bits from her recent interview in which she talked about her film in detail.
Sharing the link of her interview with Voa News, Leena had written, “My Kaali is queer. She is a free spirit. She spits at the patriarchy. She dismantles Hindutva. She destroys capitalism, She embraces everyone with all her thousand hands.”
Taking a dig at Leena, Vivek, who has time and again put forth his views on important matters on social media, said, “Can someone dismantle such crazy wokes? Please.”

For the unversed, the poster of Leena’s film showed a woman, dressed as Goddess Kali, smoking a cigarette. It also featured the pride flag aka the rainbow flag of the LGBT community. Soon after its release, the poster sparked outrage as it left the internet fuming for ‘insulting’ the Hindu Goddess.
Addressing the entire controversy, Leena issued a justification which only added more fuel to the fire. She said, “The film revolves around the events that take place one evening, when Kali appears and strolls the streets of Toronto. If you see the picture, don't put the hashtag 'arrest Leena manimekalai' and put the hashtag 'love you Leena manimekalai’.”
Meanwhile, several FIRs have been registered against Leena for showing the revered figure in a derogatory light. The Indian High Commission in Ottawa, Canada, had also raised objections over Kaali and its poster.
