Ahmedabad: In the case of BJP worker Rakesh Mehta’s murder in the Khadia area of Ahmedabad on June 8, the crime branch of the city arrested two aides of local gangster Montu Namdar.
Two other suspects, Vishnu Rami and Jayraj Desai were held at the Sanathal crossroads when they returned from Dwarka in a bus, according to city crime branch officers.
On the evening of June 8, Namdar, Rami, Desai, his two aides, and Sunil Bajania struck and killed Mehta to death near Hajira ni Pol in Khadia with sticks and baseball bats.
In this case, Bajania and two other unidentified guys are yet to be arrested.
The murder was motivated by a three-decade feud over marriage and two property issues, not by political competition. Namdar believed Mehta was working against him and backed his rivals.
Despite severe opposition from her family and community members, Namdar eloped with Pavan's sister, Namrata Gandhi, and married her in 1992. Mehta was a close friend of Pavan.
Namrata's uncle Rajesh Gandhi, Pavan, and another relative, according to police sources, killed Namdar's uncle Girish on February 7, 1993, because Girish had allegedly supported Namdar in marrying Namrata.
Namdar was enraged and held a grudge against Mehta, a close friend of Pavan's family who signed the document as a witness, which led to the murder.
