Navi Mumbai: After the arrest of Marathi actor Ketaki Chitale, the Maharashtra police have now arrested a Panvel man for allegedly forwarding the 'objectionable' post written by Ketaki against NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
The man has been identified as Kiran Inamdar. The accused was arrested from Palspe area of Panvel in Raigad district.
After the news of the man's arrest went viral, women activists of NCP reached the police station to drape the 34-year-old accused in a saree to teach him a lesson, according to a report in Times of India.
However, police did not allow the women activists to enter the police station and took him out by covering his face with black cloth.
"An FIR was registered against Inamdar under relevant sections of IPC on May 15 following a complaint by NCP activist Shridhar Bagal. He was booked for defamation promoting enmity, creating disharmony among people and hurting sentiments of NCP activists," the report quoted Vijay Kadbane, Senior Inspector, as saying.
The police took the accused to Panvel court on Thursday for seeking his police custody.
On Wednesday, Marathi actor Ketaki Chitale was sent to jail till June 1 after her arrest. Maharashtra police arrested Ketaki Chitale on May 14. A Thane court on Wednesday sent Ketaki to judicial custody for 14 days.
The 29-year-old actor allegedly shared a Facebook post in Marathi targeting NCP chief Sharad Pawar. The eight-line 'defamatory' verses she shared on her social media account were purportedly penned by advocate Nitin Bhave.
The objectionable verses allegedly used phrases like "hell is waiting” and "you hate Brahmins".
