New Delhi: French consumer electronics brand THOMSON has launched its big size QLED LED in India. With the onset of the festive season, the brand with the fully loaded new QLED TVs eyes to capture a large customer base, focusing on the online buying platform. Thomson launched QLED series with Google Tv with 3 new models of 50”, 55” & 65” respectively. The brand offers QLED Tvs at the price of 4k with prices starting from INR 33,999 for 50”, INR 38,999 for 55” & INR 58,999 for 65” and will be available on Flipkart during its festive sale period.
How's the new QLED LED, what features its loaded with and despite being the most affordable TV in this segment, will it really be able to make space for itself. Here's a detailed review.
Design and Impression
Going with the trend, the new QLED TVs are completely frameless and that gives you an edge-to-edge better viewing experience. At the bottom, you will find the brand logo Thomson. The back panel has a fine finish and is made of polycarbonate material, which looks nice and sturdy.
The TV comes with a metallic wall mount stand as well as table-top alloy stand, which perfectly matches the TV style and the black color tone. The Bezel-less & Air Slim design QLED series TVs are available in Black color that gives a stylish look. Overall, the black toned, large size QLED TV looks nice and enhances the aesthetics of the room too.
Connectivity
In terms of connectivity options, the TV comes with 3-HDMI ports, two USB ports, an antenna cable port and also a 3.5 mm jack port is there. If you want to connect your TV by optical fibre or by an ethernet connection, that port connectivity option is also provided.
Dual Band (2.4 + 5) GHz Wi-Fi connectivity provided.
Display
With the affordable price range starting at just under Rs 34,000, Thomson QLED TV comes with a 4K display, loaded with Dolby Vision with HDR 10+. The 1B colors support and brightness of 550 nits, gives a vivid and enriching viewing experience. Even in low light or the bright light condition in the room, the TV easily adapts to the condition and makes your viewing experience quite comfortable.
THE OTT apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime also support Dolby vision which is an added advantage.
Overall, considering the given price, the display is good with very balanced color output, brightness and the 4K viewing experience.
Sound
The TV comes with 40W Dolby Audio Stereo Box Speaker. It also comes with a DTS Tru surround. The brand claims that it gives a 360-degree surround sound experience. The sound output is Ok, if not so impressive. While watching a daily soap serial or a song at mild to mid volume, the speaker does give you a better output. But if you are expecting too much, I suggest using an additional soundbar to match your expectations. Especially when you are watching the OTT platforms like Netflix, the bass feel is also a bit low.
Overall, the sound performance is OK, but expecting improvements in upcoming products.
Performance
The TV comes with an internal storage of 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM and runs on MT9062 processor. Its a Google TV and SPPL, the exclusive brand licensee of THOMSON in India claims that the brand is the first Indian manufacturer to produce Google Licensed QLED TVs in the country.
The TV comes with the latest Android 11 version which kaes the user interface, switching from an app to the other very easy. Based on the speed and better wi-fi connectivity, you can easily enjoy several apps being offered, thanks to Google.
The remote is also very sleek and easy to use, the carbon black toned TV remote is rectangular and has curved edges and perfectly fits your palm size. Apart from the volume adjustment buttons, the voice command button, Google assistant button the scroller etc the remote also comes with dedicated button for apps - netflix, amazon prime and YouTube. The remote requires triple AAA batteries to function (interestingly, the box comes with these batteries)
Overall, a satisfactory experience.
Apps/Features
With more than 10000 Plus Apps and Games Like Netflix, Prime Video, Hot star, Zee5, Apple TV, Voot, Sony LIV, Google Play Store with 500,000 Plus TV Shows, the QLED offering from Thomson won't disappoint you on this front.
The QLED offering from Thomson hosts multiple features like the TV support for multiple adult and child user profiles, which makes it easy for the user to specify the content for the minors. The TV also comes with a massive selection of smart TV apps. Some quick looks at features specs -
  • focus on personalized content
  • Manual and voice controls for smart home devices
  • Personalized home screen for each user
  • Movies and TV series can be saved to profiles from phone
  • The Google TV app can be used to control the TV
  • Smart home controls for lights and cameras
  • Child profiles with content restrictions
  • Personal recommendations for each profile
Final review: amid cutthroat competition in the TV sector, Thomson has been able to come up with a nice product, the QLED LED with 4K display that too in such an affordable price range. The display and viewing experience are satisfactory. Google assistance and Android 11 enhance the experience.
The sound quality could have been better but if you could support the TV soundbar then nothing better than this. If you are looking for a big size TV for your home this festive season in a pocket - friendly budget, Thomson QLED can be given a thought.
