Adipurush's 'Ram' Prabhas attends Dussehra celebrations in Delhi amid backlash; gets trolled
Amid flak from Hindu organisations, political leaders and netizens, upcoming mythological film Adipurush's lead hero Prabhas graced a Ramlila function in Delhi. He got the honour to perform the Raavan Dahan. However, this didn't sit down well with netizens and they trolled the actor.
Amid Adipurush row, Prabhas' visit to Delhi for Ram Leela on Dusehra gets mixed reactions
Ever since the teaser of upcoming mythological film Adipurush dropped online, its cast and makers have been receiving severe backlash. The movie has been accused of depicting Hindu Gods wrongly. The looks of Lord Ram, Hanuman and Ravana have drawn flak from netizens, Hindu organisations and political leaders.
Amid the controversy, Adipurush's lead star Prabhas attended Dussehra celebrations in Delhi. He graced the national capital's popular Ramlila at the historic Red Fort grounds on Wednesday. Also in attendance were Adipurush director Om Raut and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
The actor, who is playing the role of Lord Ram, also got the honour to perform the Raavan Dahan. Several videos from the event surfaced online.
Amid the criticism, Prabhas and Om's visit didn't go down well with netizens. While some took to the comments section to troll them, others schooled the South star. A user wrote in Hindi, "Haan ab movie aarahi h to ab to Ram ji ka bhakt banjeyga. Ye bakwas fake actors (Yes, now the film is coming, so he will become Ram ji's devotee. This nonsense is a fake actor)."
A comment read, "Wrong move #Prabhas... Not want to comment on yours but time will tell what you & whole movie team created a joke on The Ramayana... You will be ashamed on yourself when you see in true eyes.. #boycottbollywood."
Meanwhile, some fans came out in the actor's support. "Prabhas is the only actor in South who never involved in any controversies in his 20 years career... he is a very humble, kind, and innocent guy... he doesn't know all these sm hypes, brands, self-promoting and stuff...if u didn't like the movie, stop the movie but don't troll him... He is the best offscreen person ever."
Here are some reactions:
Adipurush, also starring Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon, is slated to hit the theatres on January 12, 2023.
