Kannada star Kiccha Sudeepa had recently said that “Hindi is no more a national language.” This was at an event where the South star, who has worked with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in Dabangg 3, had reacted to KGF 2 being called pan-India film. The remark left a section of Twitter irked while others lauded him for his strong stance on Hindi imposition. Now, Bollywood star Ajay Devgn has reacted to the same.
Days after Kiccha's remark about the national language, Ajay took to his Twitter to react to the viral video. The Bollywood star, who was a part of SS Rajamouli's Telugu film RRR, questioned Kiccha for dubbing his films in Hindi before release.
In his strong-worded statement, which was interestingly in Hindi, Ajay Devgn wrote, "My brother, According to you if Hindi is not our national language then why do you release your mother tongue movies by dubbing them in Hindi?
Hindi is our mother tongue and language."
For those unversed, reacting to KGF 2's success, Kiccha Sudeep had stated, “Someone said that a pan India film was made in Kannada. I'd like to make a small correction. Hindi is no more a national language. They (Bollywood) are doing pan-India films today. They are struggling by dubbing in Telugu and Tamil, but it's (the success) not happening. Today we are making films that are going everywhere.”
This comes amid the Hindi imposition row which was sparked after Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the need to accept the language as an alternative to English. He was quoted saying, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided that the medium of running the government is the Official Language, and this will definitely increase the importance of Hindi. Now the time has come to make the Official Language an important part of the unity of the country. When citizens of States who speak other languages communicate with each other, it should be in the language of India.”
The statement has recieved strong reactions from policitial leaders from non-Hindi speaking states.
