Proved everyone wrong by implementing Narmada irrigation scheme: PM Modi in Gujarat

Bhavnagar: Prime Minister Narendra ModiI on Thursday said that the BJP government in Gujarat proved everyone wrong by implementing Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation scheme, which was once dubbed as a poll-centric announcement.

Prime Minister Modi in 2016 inaugurated the first phase of Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) project, an irrigation scheme, initiated by him in 2012 as Gujarat Chief Minister.
The scheme was launched with the objective of diverting the floodwater overflowing from Sardar Sarovar Dam across the Narmada river to several major dams of the drought areas in eleven districts of Saurashtra region through a network of canal and pipelines.
Prime Minister Modi further said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Gujarat implemented several big-ticket projects on the state's coastline without wasting money on their publicity, in an apparent dig at AAP.
"We did all this work without making any noise or wasting money on publicity. For us, power is only a means to serve the people," Modi said while addressing a huge gathering of people. "I have proved everyone wrong by implementing the SAUNI Yojana, which was once dubbed as an election-centric announcement. We always stick to our promises. We (BJP) are those who live for the society," the Prime Minister added.
Prime Minister Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Gujarat, held a roadshow in Bhavnagar city on Thursday before addressing a mega public rally.
The Prime Minister led a roadshow for two kms, from Women's College circle till Jawahar Maidan.
Nearly 50,000 people had gathered along the roadshow route in Bhavnagar to greet the PM, who reciprocated by waving at them, according to officials, PTI reported. Women showered rose petals on Modi's car.
