Celebrated director Rohit Shetty has become the latest in a long line of noted personalities to speak up on the North vs South cinema debate. The director of Bollywood's copverse said that the rising popularity of south Indian films across India should not be looked at as the end for Bollywood.
Speaking at an event where he was present alongside Ranveer Singh, Rohit said that both north and south Indian cinema can do well and that there is no competition between the two. He even opened up of the impact south Indian films on Bollywood.
During the event, Rohit weighed in on the north vs south films debate and gave a brilliant answer going down the archives of blockbuster south films and actors. He says that when the generation changes, the media changes as well, which is why the newer lot of the media is feeling that south films are doing well only now, however they’ve have been around for eons and have always been a thriving industry .

""The trend of 'Bollywood khatam' (Bollywood is over) will never happen. In the 80s, when VCRs came to the forefront, people said that theatre will go out of business, and Bollywood is finished. Then recently with the boom of OTT, many people said that Bollywood is finished. So… Bollywood kabhi khatam nahi hoga," he said.
The actor went on to add that south Indian films have been remade in Hindi sicne the 1960s, adding that if one checks history they will learn that south issince the 60s and 50s. Shashi Kapoor's Pyaar Kiye Jaa was remake of a south film. In the 80s, when Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna were at their peak, a new boy entered into cinema world, Kamal Haasan sir with Ek Duje Ke Liye, and it was a hit.
Earlier, Akshay Kumar and filmmaker Karan Johar, among others have weighed in on the ongoing north vs south cinema debate, post the stupendous business done by SS Rajamouli's RRR starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR as well as Prashanth Neel's KGF: Chapter 2, which has Yash and Srinidhi Shetty in lead roles.
