The Kashmir Files has been breaking box office records and has proved that content is the king. Despite starting with lesser screens and lower promotions, the film has managed to mint Rs 200 crore in just two weeks. The film’s director, Vivek Agnihotri, who had started his directorial career with the movie Chocolate is on cloud nine these days as for him making a transition towards independent cinema wasn’t easy.
The national award winning director has been making hard hitting movies of late, and his recent release has kicked the ball out of the court. The Kashmir Files is the story of the Kashmiri Pandits and the atrocities they had faced in 1990, forcing them to leave everything behind for the sake of their lives. The film has been working as an eye-opener for the audience and it has touched many hearts.
While on one side, people are appreciating the film for bringing out such sensitive topic, on the other hand, it is also facing criticism as people are objecting it to put a certain religion in bad light. In an interview with ETimes, Vivek Agnihotri talked about the film receiving diverse reactions and divided opinion.
Vivek shared that it is great that people are differentiating between evil and good. He added that he can now differentiate between people who believe in human values and the ones who are from the terrorism industry.
He said, “I think it's a great social service. It's a great service to democracy that you polarise between the evil and the good. Actually, I will not use the word polarise, I would say differentiate and segment people who are pro humanity, people who believe in human values and human rights, and the people who are from the terrorism industry. People who give ideological or intellectual or media support to terrorists.”
Vivek further added that by the end of this week, it will be more than 2 crore people, who would have watched the film. It is only the people, who are associated to terrorist groups, who are criticising the film. He mentioned that The Kashmir Files is ‘differentiating between Ram and Raavan’.
“So today on one side, we have a huge number of people who believe in humanity, and the other side has very small numbers. By the end of this week, this film would have been seen by 2 crore-plus people. Out of the 2 crores people who saw this film you won’t find a single person who will say this film is a polarising film. People who support terrorist groups are the ones criticising the film. The Kashmir Files is not dividing or polarising it is differentiating between Ram and Raavan,” he added.
Well, the film has managed to break Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi’s lifetime record, and has hampered the box-office collection of Akshay’s Bachchhan Paandey and Prabhas’ Radhe Shayam.
