Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis held first Cabinet meet after taking over as CM and Deputy CM.

Mumbai: Hours after Eknath Shinde was sworn in as chief minister of Maharashtra, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari asked the CM to prove his majority in the House on Saturday (July 2). The Governor has asked the chief minister to call for a special session in the Assembly. The BJP will file nomination of its leader of legislative assembly on Friday.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led government fell after Shinde broke away with 39 Sena MLAs, pushing the MVA in minority. Shinde also had support of independents, taking the total number to 50. When the rebel Sena leaders revolted against the then CM, they said they wanted Uddhav Thackeray to break alliance with Congress and NCP, and join hands with the BJP.
However, Thackeray stuck with the alliance and resigned as CM. A day after he quit on Wednesday, Shinde formed the government with the BJP, which has 106 MLAs in the House. A party or alliance needs 145 MLAs to prove majority in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly.
From the opposition, the NCP has 53 and Congress 44 MLAs. The AIMIM and Samajwadi Party have two seats each. The MNS of raj Thackeray, which is backing the BJP-Shinde government, has one MLA in the House.
Shiv Sena MLA Deepak Kesarkar today said despite having 106 MLAs, the BJP took the decision of making Eknath Shinde the CM. "It means they have shown large heartedness," he said. The Sena MLA also said that Devendra Fadvanis in the cabinet will be a boost as it will be a help to get clearances from Delhi.
Sharad Pawar said giving the chief minister post to Shinde was shocking. "I don't think that the one who led MLAs to Assam had expected more than the post of Deputy CM. But in BJP, as per order - be it from Delhi or Nagpur - the CM post has been given to Eknath Shinde. The person who was CM and LoP has been asked to take oath as Deputy CM. It's shocking," Pawar was quoted as saying by ANI.
