Pune: Residents in the bustling Garware College station region near Pune have extra reasons to be concerned currently. They have expressed their displeasure over the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited's (MahaMetro) late-night testing and trials of Metro rakes and tracks, which are creating a lot of noise and generating disruptions at an extremely inconvenient time.
In the first stage of operations for this significant public transportation project of the city, the Metro travels from the Vanaz end up to Garware College station. However, commercial activities are scheduled throughout the day, while the trials are set for the night, complained the locals.
On Monday, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) began testing the communication-based train control and signalling system for the Pune Metro rail project (CBTC). This would allow for the operation of a train every two minutes.
Brijesh Dixit, MD of Maha Metro, said, the CBTC’s high-speed train trial is an important step towards the completion of the project. “Pune Metro in a few months from now will be operational from Garware College Metro Station to Civil Court and from Phugewadi to Civil Court,” Dixit said.
The Pune Metro's Vanaz and Nal stop sections are where the trials are being conducted. Titagarh Firema trains are being used for these experiments.
The Pune Metro's signalling and train control system will be computer-based. Three trains are being operated concurrently as part of the testing for low-speed and high-speed trains as well as multiple train operations.
Additionally, residents made it clear that they are not against the Metro project as a whole. They emphasised the need to prevent challenges for locals as a result of unpredictable work schedules, nevertheless.
Recently, MahaMetro expanded the use of rakes at the Deccan Gymkhana. Rake trials are being conducted to examine technical elements including track alignment and rake breakage.
MahaMetro officials stated that testing of rakes and tracks is required, but they also emphasised that they will look into the difficulties raised to come up with a solution. "The trials of rakes are scheduled at night as the trains are running all through the day for commuters," officials clarified.
