Mumbai: Police file murder case against man who committed suicide after killing his family

Police initially thought that it was a case of accidental death and had filed a case accordingly. But once they received the post mortem report things changed when it came to light that Khan had deliberately poisoned his wife and two children and later hanged himself in his house. Therefore, the police charged Khan with murder.

Mumbai: The Mumbai police have registered a case against a man who committed suicide after it came to light that before taking his own life the man had killed his wife and two children. The man had allegedly poisoned his family before hanging himself.
The incident happened some two months ago in the suburb of Govandi, police said.
The police said that they have registered a case of murder against the man identified as Shakeel Khan who had hanged himself at his house at Indira Nagar area on July 29 soon after poisoning his wife and two children, a Shivaji Nagar police official said.
Police said that initially they had registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR). But after the post mortem report later revealed that Khan had deliberately given poison to his wife Raziya and their two children Sarfaraz (7) and daughter Atika (3) with the intention of killing them, Times of India reported.
According to the police Khan used to run a grocery store in the area and had in recent times had suffered huge losses in his business. This had made him increasingly depressed and mentally disturbed and out of depression he took this extreme step.
The deaths came to light when Khan failed to open his grocery store at the usual time. This led to one of his relatives coming to inquire as to why hadn’t Khan opened his grocery story. When he reached Khan's house he peeped inside and saw the dead bodies. He immediately informed the police.
