Mohali: In yet another shocking incident, two physical training instructors scaled a water tank near Singh Shaheedan Gurdwara in Mohali's Sohana on Wednesday to demand government jobs.
Sippy Sharma and Veerpal Kaur, the two teachers, risked their lives by climbing the water tank after midnight because the stairs were damaged. The two educators staged a number of protests in Punjab in 2021 by scaling water tanks. Along with 646 other physical education instructors, they have been requesting employment at government-run schools, Hindustan Times reported.
Sippy Sharma said in a video message, "AAP leaders, including current Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, persuaded us to leave the tanks the last time we did so by promising us jobs in government schools, but the new administration has not kept its word."
"We've spent almost all of the major festivals on water tanks, but we're hoping to get jobs soon," Sharma added.
She further alleged that the state's education minister, Harjot Singh Bains, had broken his promise to hire 646 PTI teachers. PTI union members reportedly chanted anti-government slogans.
A protesting teacher said, "We supported the AAP's leaders in forming the government because we had faith in them. Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann had called Sharma their sister and promised her a job."
According to both teachers, they will remain on the water tank until their demands are met. Cops made attempts to persuade the teachers to disperse by promising to convey their demands to the relevant government officials, but they were unsuccessful.
