Despite missing out on a Bronze medal at last year's Tokyo Olympics in heartbreaking fashion, the Indian women's team won the hearts of a nation with a spirited effort that saw them finish fourth. In a historic moment, India stunned the world to knock the mighty Australian team out of the competition in the quarter-final with a 1-0 victory.

The Indian side will look to build on the momentum in this month's Hockey World Cup which is taking place in Spain and Netherlands. The Spanish City of Terrassa and Dutch town of Amstelveen are joint hosts of the tournament which is taking place from July 1-17.

India are placed in Pool B with New Zealand, China, and England. The Indian side will begin its campaign on Sunday (July 3) against England at Amstelveen's Wagener Stadium. The next two matches will take place at the same venue against China and New Zealand on July 5 and July 7 respectively. Here is all you need to know about India's campaign in the event -

What is the format

After the group stage, all group-toppers will directly qualify for the quarter-finals. Meanwhile the second and third-placed teams will play each other in crossover games that are scheduled to take place on July 9 and 10. The QFs will take place on July 12 and 13. The semi-finals will take place on July 16 while the final is scheduled to take place on July 17.
