On the fifth day (Panchami Tithi) during the waxing phase of the Lunar fortnight in the Hindu month of Ashwin, devotees worship the Skandamata avatar of Durga. Interestingly, Goddess Durga is celebrated during Devi Paksha, a period popularly known as Navratri. Though Navratri is observed four times a year during the change of seasons, the one falling in autumn (Sharad) in Ashwin is the most significant. Hence the name Shardiya Navratri. And today, on the Panchami Tithi (Fifth day) Ashwin, Shukla Paksha, devotees shall worship the Skandamata form of Goddess Durga. Maa Skandamata

Skanda Mata, the mother of Lord Kartikeya (also hailed as Murugan or Subramanian or Shanmugham), the warrior God, is depicted with four hands. Mounted on a lion, Skanda Mata is accompanied by baby Skanda (Kartikeya) with six heads seated on her lap. She holds lotuses in the upper right and left hand and displays the Abhaya Mudra in the lower right hand.

Abhijeet Muhurat: 11:47 AM to 12:35 PM

Vijay Muhurat: 2:10 PM to 2:58 PM

Godhuli Muhurat: 5:57 PM to 6:21 PM

Skanda Mata Puja Vidhi

Begin the puja by invoking Lord Ganesha (Vighnaharta) and seek his blessings for a hurdle-free Navratri vrat.
Invoke Maa Skanda Mata by chanting the following Mantras.

Om Devi Skandamatayai Namah॥

सिंहासनगता नित्यं पद्माञ्चित करद्वया।

Perform the Panchopchara puja by offering Gandham, Pushpam, Deepam, Sugandham and Naivedyam (blog).

Skanda Mata Bhog

Worship Maa Skanda Mata and offer Banana and/or any other fruit as bhog.

Conclude the puja by singing the Aarti and offer your salutations by lighting the camphor.
