External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is gaining popularity with the masses and for all the right reasons. The Union Minister’s witty reply and comebacks at international stage has left people applauding him. Be it the stand of India vis a vis the West or its relations with China, the minister has hit the nail on its head and unapologetically so.
It was no wonder that young students now look at the man with admiration. Students now look at India’s Foreign Minister as a ‘success’ when it comes to International relations. And the sentiments were visible in a video that has surfaced on social medial
A young school girl is seen asking the minister advise on career in international relation. The student has expressed her admiration for the Civil Servant turned Minister’s career path and asked if he could ‘guide me on how to pursue a career in International Relations.’
Jaishankar laughed at the question and replied that he perhaps may not be the best person to answer that question for he himself tried a few things before he ‘found’ political science.
“Truthfully, I am a very bad guide,” he says. “I didn’t know for a long time what I wanted to do. I even spent a few months in the IIT. I had registered for a master’s degree in Chemistry and I realized that this chemistry and I are not a natural fit. So when I actually finally hit political science as a subject it took me a few weeks to finish a few month’s work,” he recalls.
He reiterates that it is important to follow your passion and how it was only when he was doing political science that he never felt he was doing his course study. He asked students to follow their dreams.
“Do what you are actually interested in. If you can make a profession of your passion, I can tell you will be excellent,” he says. Watch the video here.
EAM Jaishankar is currently on a 10 day trip to the USA. His sharp comments on US while managing to strengthen the diplomatic ties of the two countries have been a great success.
