Mumbai: 29-year-old woman raped in 5-star hotel by relative from Virar, accused held

Mumbai rape: The woman alleged she was repeatedly raped by her relative on the pretext of marriage. She also alleged that the accused gave her pills to abort the pregnancy.

Mumbai: A 38-year-old man has been arrested by Mumbai Police for allegedly rapping a woman at a 5-star hotel in Lower Parel in the city. The accused is a relative of the victim and lives in Virar, Mumbai.
Initially, the case was filed at Navi Mumbai but later shifted to NM Joshi Marg police station as the crime allegedly took place under that jurisdiction.
The 29-year-old victim is a resident of Navi Mumbai. The woman in her complaint told police that her sister-in-law's husband sexually assaulted her and shot videos and photos, according to a report in Times of India.
Earlier, the woman lived with her in-laws in Dadar. Later, the victim moved to Navi Mumbai with her husband.
The accused met the victim at family functions as he is a relative.
Citing police sources, the report suggested that the accused promised to marry the complainant and took her to various hotels in Pune, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai between February 2021 and June this year.
The woman also alleged that he also gave her pills to terminate her pregnancy. The accused allegedly threatened to make the videos and photos public if she revealed the crime to anyone.
Police have now seized the mobile phone of the accused and sent it for forensic examination at Kalina forensic science laboratory.
The accused has been booked under Section 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offence), 313 (causing miscarriage without women's consent) f Indian Penal Code (IPC). He has been sent to judicial custody after he was arrested last week.
