Nine, including Bangladeshis arrested after Delhi police busts fake passport racket at IGI airport

New Delhi: Nine persons, including eight Bangladeshi nationals, were detained by the Delhi Police on Thursday for allegedly faking passports and other documents to obtain Indian citizenship, The Indian Express reported.
The accused, according to the police, arrived at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Wednesday from Seychelles, South Africa, Nepal, and other nearby nations.
According to the police, the primary suspect, 52-year-old Debashish Chakraborty, operates a nexus by giving fake visa documents and Indian passports to foreign nationals.
The eight passengers travelling with Chakraborty pretended to be Indian citizens, but an airport security official discovered their passports were fake, according to the authorities.
All of the individuals are citizens of Bangladesh, and it was discovered after an examination of their credentials and travel documents that they obtained Indian passports through fraud by deceiving Indian authorities, according to the FIR.
They falsely placed the Kolkata departure stamp on their passport.
Chakraborty admitted to his crime and disclosed that he and his friends had been defrauding the government for years by buying fake passports for foreign nationals in Kolkata.
According to a senior police officer, Roy would charge foreigners between Rs 60,000 and 1 lakh in exchange for Indian passports. Chakraborty pretended to be a government employee, thus many of the passengers were unaware that he was actually working illegally.
According to the police, all the suspects were arrested for violating the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, the Foreigners Act, and sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) dealing with cheating and criminal conspiracy.
