Banda (Uttar Pradesh): A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against six police constables, three named and three unidentified police constables on Saturday night in connection with the alleged murder of a 22-year-old newly recruited constable.
The police constable, Raghvendra Singh was posted at Kamasin police station in Banda of Uttar Pradesh. He was reportedly found hanging at his residence on July 29, police said.
Police added that this was Raghvendra’s first posting after being recruited into the force. The three named accused have been identified as Aman Singh, Vikram Singh, and Saurabh Verma were also posted at Kamasin police station. However, no arrests have been made in the case so far, reported The Indian Express.
Though Raghvendra’s body was found hanging on July 29, his case was lodged almost two months later after the intervention of some senior police officers into the matter. Police also said no suicide note was recovered from the spot.
Circle Officer, Banda, Rakesh Singh said, “Raghvendra’s body was found hanging from a hook at his rented accommodation on July 29. The body was then sent for post-mortem and its report stated that he died due to hanging.”
However, Raghvendra’s family had been alleging that he had been murdered and his body was later hung from a hook at his home to pass it off as a suicide, reported The Indian Express.
Police further said that Raghvendra’s father Gopal Prasad claimed that the accused had a violent altercation with his son hours before his death.
“Raghvendra’s father alleged that on July 28, a birthday party was organised at Kamasin police station for one of the accused Aman Singh. During the party, Aman allegedly slapped the victim over some issue. However, the matter was resolved after the intervention of others present at the party,” a police officer said as quoted by The Indian Express.
Gopal further claimed that after the party, the accused came to Raghvendra’s home and there was an altercation between them. “They beat him up injuring him severely. He later died. Gopal said the accused then hung his body to make it look like a case of suicide,” the officer said adding that an investigation into the case is underway.
