Punjab: Man kills daughter-in-law on suspicion of extramarital affair

Punjab murder: A man was arrested by the police for the murder of his own daughter-in-law because he said she was having an illicit relation with another man which he disproved of. But when she did not heed to his warnings, he killed her in a fit of rage. Police came to know that the relation between the two was deeply strained.

Ludhiana: Police have arrested a man for killing his daughter-in-law as he suspected her of having an extra marital affair with another man. The police have arrested the father-in-law and said that their preliminary investigations point to the fact that the accused was helped by someone else in the commission of this crime. The accused strangled his daughter-in-law to death in the house in Pratap Nagar on Friday.

The accused, identified as Gobi Lal was arrested on Saturday for the murder of his daughter-in-law Lakshmi. Gobi Lal told the police that his daughter in law was involved in an illicit relation with another man. He did not approve of this and told the police that he warned her several times to end her relationship but she did not pay any heed to his warnings.

On Friday when he once again reprimanded her, which led to an argument between them and in a fit of rage he ended up strangulating her. He later escaped from the scene of the crime. However, during their investigation the police came to know that Gobi Lal was not on good terms with his daughter-in-law, Times of India reported.

His daughter-in-law Lakhsmi was found dead by her neighbour, when she came to check on her as she failed to collect her child from a play school close to her house in the afternoon.

On Friday when she did not come to collect her child, the school authorities called up her husband Monu and told her about the situation. Monu in turn called their neighbour to check on his wife and find out why she did not collect their child from the play school. When the neighbour went to their house, she found Lakshmi dead.

Following this the police were informed who reached the spot and took away Lakshmi's dead body for post mortem and began their investigation. They are trying to ascertain the reason behind the conflict between the victim and the accused.
