Uttar Pradesh: In the ongoing marriage season several incidents of cancellation of marriages by brides and grooms for strange and unique reasons were reported from across the country. Many brides rejected to marry after learning about their drunken grooms and over huge dowry demands by the families of the grooms. Similarly, grooms also rejected their brides for bizarre reasons.
Another such incident has come to the fore from Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district which will remind you of Ayushmann Khurrana’s movie ‘Bala’. The movie released in 2019 is a story of a man who suffers from premature balding and hides it from his bride-to-be to marry her. Though he managed to get married, his bride leaves him after finding out about her groom’s baldness.
In this incident in Unnao, the bride refused to marry her groom after finding out about his baldness even as half of the wedding ceremonies were completed and the main rituals were scheduled for early morning, reported IANS.
The groom, before walking into the mandap, felt dizzy and fainted. As he fell to the ground, his wig came off and everyone saw that he was bald. The groom had hidden his baldness from the bride's family.
As soon as the bride learned that the groom was bald, she refused to go ahead with the marriage ceremonies, reported IANS.
Though the family members and relatives tried to convince the bride, she remained firm on her stand. The matter was then taken to the local police station but the bride remained firm even after the police intervention.
Subsequently, a panchayat meeting was called and the girl’s family claimed that they had spent Rs 5.66 lakh for the marriage. The groom’s side agreed to their demands and returned the money to the bride's father.
The groom and the 'baraatis' had to return to Kanpur without the bride.
The bride's uncle said that the groom's family should not have hidden the fact that he was bald. "If they would have told us about the groom’s baldness, we could have mentally prepared the bride and she would not have been shocked. You cannot expect a marriage to start on falsehood," he said.
Pariyar police out-post in charge, Ramjeet Yadav, said that even though they tried to convince the bride, she did not agree to the marriage. Later, a compromise was reached between the two parties, added the officer.
