Baramulla: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said that India will not hold any dialogue with Pakistan and asserted that the Narendra Modi government will uproot terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir and make it the most peaceful place in the country.
Shah, who is on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, made the statement while addressing a public rally in Baramulla district.
"Some people say we should talk to Pakistan. Why should we talk to Pakistan? We will not talk. We will talk to the people of Baramulla, we will talk to the people of Kashmir," Shah said.
"The Narendra Modi government wants to wipe out terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir so that it remains the heaven of India. We do not tolerate terrorism. We want to make Jammu and Kashmir the most peaceful place in the country. Earlier it was a terrorist hotspot but today it is a tourist hotspot. Imagine how many people have benefited from this," he said at the public rally.
Shah asked whether terrorism has ever benefited anyone as it has claimed 42,000 lives in Jammu and Kashmir since the 1990s.
He also hit out at the political families of the Abdullahs (National Conference), Muftis (PDP) and Nehru-Gandhi (Congress), who ruled the erstwhile state most of the time since Independence in 1947, for allegedly not undertaking any development work in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mounting his attack at the three families, he alleged that their rules were full of misgovernance, corruption and lack of development.
"Mufti and company, Abdullah and sons and the Congress have done nothing for the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," he said, PTI reported.
Shah also said that the Assembly polls in in Jammu and Kashmir will be held with "full transparency” after the Election Commission publishes the revised electoral rolls.
"I want to assure you that once the work of publishing electoral rolls by the Election Commission is completed, elections will be conducted with full transparency and your own elected representatives will govern here," he added.
