The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last month announced a 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Apart from declaring the names of the 15 players who will travel to Australia to take part in this year’s mega event, the Indian selectors also included four reserves, who will also join the side on the trip Down Under. And now, according to a new report, the team management is set to take two additional players with them.
According to the latest report in Sportstar, the pacer duo of Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik are set to travel to Perth with the main squad on October 6, when the team will leave for Australia to take part in the T20 World Cup. The Indian team will land in Perth as they have selected WACA as their base and, after a week-long training camp there, will travel to Brisbane to take part in their first warm-up game, which is scheduled against Australia on October 17, and then play the second one against New Zealand.
On October 23, India will begin its T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and will then face the likes of a qualifier side on October 27, South Africa on October 30, Bangladesh on November 2, and another qualifier on November 6.
Siraj, who has featured for India in all three formats of the game, has played five T20Is for the Men in Blue and has picked up as many wickets. He has been announced as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for the ongoing T20I series against South Africa. On the other hand, Umran has made a name for himself while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022. He picked up 22 wickets in 14 matches this year and finished as the fourth leading wicket taker. His superb show earned him a place in India’s T20I squad, and he made his debut against Ireland on June 26 and has played a total of three matches so far.
