Roger Federer isn't playing in Wimbledon 2022 after undergoing a knee surgery last year.

The crowd at Wimbledon was on its feet as 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer returned to the court to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the prestigious tournament on July 3. The Swiss marvel returned to Wimbledon almost a year after playing his last match in the quarterfinals here to be a part of a special celebration to mark 100 years of Centre Court on Sunday.
Federer's good friend and 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal was asked to share his views on the moments spent with Federer on the tennis court.
“At the same time all the things that we shared together on court is something difficult to describe, the emotions, all the things. And of course I personally miss him in the tennis tour, and tennis of course miss him, tournaments, fans, everyone,” Nadal, who is eyeing a hat-trick of Majors this year, said.
Federer last played in Wimbledon in 2021 where he suffered a loss in the quarterfinal and then underwent a knee surgery.
Nadal went on to add that Federer was a player who was not only missed in the Wimbledon but on any court.
“We can’t create a story just about Wimbledon. I think Roger Federer is important in every single tournament. Not only Wimbledon. Is a well-missed player in every single event of tennis, without a doubt," he added.
Meanwhile, Federer, who has eight Wimbledon titles to his name, expressed his desire to return to the tournament as a player one more time.
"I knew walking out here last year, it was going to be a tough year ahead," said Federer, who will turn 42 next month.
"I maybe didn't think it was going to take this long to come back -- the knee has been rough on me."
