Gurugram rains: 'Ask employees to work from home today,' authorities tell corporate offices, private institutions

Despite the Gurugram Police's claims of handling traffic snarls on Thursday, commuters claimed they experienced challenges while travelling.

Gurugram: In light of the heavy rainfall alert on Friday, the Gurugram Disaster Management Authority has urged all corporate offices and private institutions in the district to encourage employees to work from home, so that traffic congestion is avoided and civic agencies can carry out repair work of road and drain smoothly.
Additionally, the authority advised that all schools and colleges close on Friday in the larger interest of the public.
"In view of heavy rainfall prediction for the district Gurugram on September 23, 2022, there are chances of waterlogging and traffic congestion. Therefore, all Corporate offices and private institutions in the district are advised to guide their employees to work from home on September 23, 2022, so that traffic congestion can be avoided and repair works of roads and drains can be carried out smoothly by civic agencies. All Private education institutions are advised to close the school/colleges on September 23, 2022, in the larger public interest," read the advisory.
Due to heavy rains on Thursday, several parts of Gurugram were flooded, resulting in traffic jams as police struggled to clear the roads. Lanes and main roads were inundated to the point that pedestrians had no choice but to walk through them.
There were also reports of waterlogging in several parts of the national capital.
The Delhi-Gurugram expressway was heavily congested on the rainy day.
"Due to continuous heavy rainfall in Gurugram, there is waterlogging at some places and the traffic is moving at a slow speed. Therefore, we request all of you that you should come out of the house only when necessary," said the traffic police advisory.
Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, warning of heavy rains that could disrupt traffic, damage roads, and reduce visibility.
