Porsche’s top-of-the-range Taycan Turbo S becomes the latest production-spec electric vehicle to set the lap record time in the Green hell aka Nurburgring circuit. The German manufacturer’s only fully-electric vehicle set the record in 7:33:350 minutes, beating the Tesla Model Plaid S’ previously-held lap record time of 7:35:57 set in 2021.
The record-setting Taycan Turbo S was being driven by Porsche Development driver Lars Kern and it equipped Porsche’s recently announced Tequipment performance kit. This new pack adds 21-inch RS-Spyder-design wheels wrapped in street-legal Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control software. Aside from that, the Taycan Kern drove also included a roll cage and racing seats as part of the safety rules in the circuit.
The new tyres are specially designed for the race track and the DCC software can also be restored to its original settings, just like the wheels can be retrofitted. The above-mentioned Performance kit is only available in Germany and only for the 2023 model. Production of these cars started in July 2022, and the performance kit will be available with the vehicles at the end of this year.

“In the past, only thoroughbred super sports cars got into the 7:33 range,” says Kern. “With the new performance kit I was able to push even harder, and the car was even more precise and agile to boot.”
The Taycan Turbo S equips the bigger 93.4 kWh two-deck Performance Battery Plus. It produces 761 hp and 1050 Nm of torque and without the Tequipment package, it could already do 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. It is available in India with an ex-showroom price starting from ₹2.33 crore.
However, the Taycan range starts from ₹1.53 crore with the base model, followed by the Tayacan 4S at ₹1.66 crores, and the Taycan Turbo at ₹2.12 crore. There are also rear-extended Cross Tourismo models of the Taycan - Taycan 4S Cross Tourism model starting from ₹1.73 crores and the Turbo Cross Tourismo is priced at ₹2.14 crore.
