New Delhi: A SpiceJet flight en route to Dubai from Delhi had to make an emergency landing at the Karachi airport in Pakistan on Tuesday after developing a technical fault. All passengers were safely disembarked, the airline spokesperson said.
"SpiceJet B737 aircraft operating flight SG-11 (Delhi-Dubai) was diverted to Karachi due to an indicator light malfunctioning. The aircraft landed safely in Karachi and passengers were safely disembarked," said the SpiceJet Spokesperson.
The spokesperson further stated that no emergency was declared and the aircraft made a normal landing at the Karachi airport.
"There was no earlier report of any malfunction with the aircraft. Passengers have been served refreshments. A replacement aircraft is being sent to Karachi that will take the passengers to Dubai," the SpiceJet spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has said that the crew observed unusual fuel quantity reduction from the left tank and carried out relevant non-normal checklist, however, fuel quantity kept decreasing. "Aircraft diverted to Karachi in coordination with ATC. During the post-flight inspection, no visual leak was observed from the left main tank," it added.
The DGCA has ordered a probe into the incident. More than 150 passengers were onboard the SpiceJet flight when it made the emergency landing.
"Passengers of Indian plane transferred to the transit lounge. Passengers are being looked after in the lounge. Engineers are inspecting and trying to fix the problem in aircraft. It will be given clearance for flight only after a clearance report by engineers is in," the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson said.
As per latest reports, SpiceJet replacement aircraft has arrived in Karachi from Mumbai. Boeing 737 Max plane will be taking passengers to Dubai. The replacement aircraft landed at 5:45PM Pakistan Time.

Third Spicejet flight incident in last few days

This is the third incident within a month when a Spicejet flight has faced technical issues.
Earlier on July 2, a SpiceJet aircraft operating from Delhi to Jabalpur returned safely to the Delhi airport after the crew noticed smoke in the cabin while passing 5000ft. While a Delhi-bound flight returned to Patna after it caught fire-mid air.
The private airliner had released a statement saying the plane was hit by a bird.
SpiceJet even added that post landing, an investigation showed three fan blades were damaged. "On June 19, 2022, SpiceJet B737-800 aircraft was operating SG-723 (Patna-Delhi). On takeoff, during rotation, cockpit crew suspected bird hit on Engine #1," SpiceJet statement had said.
