Tom Cruise's Top Gun Maverick is easily one of the most celebrated Hollywood films this year. The sequel to the 1986 Top Gun not only took the story of Captain Pete Maverick Mitchell forward but also had an iconic scene where it reunited Tom Cruise's Pete with Val Kilmer's Iceman to much appreciation from the audience.
And now, in a new social media post, Val Kilmer has celebrated Iceman and Maverick's big-screen reunion in Top Gun Maverick. Notably, Joseph Kosinski's Top Gun sequel was more than three decades in the making and as such led to much trends among fans to see the two iconic actors share the screen to.
Interestingly, even if the film was a direct sequel to the 1986 cult classic, Kosinski opted not to bring back a majority of Top Gun's original cast. Apart from the lead man Tom Cruise, the makers only brought back Kilmer's Tom 'Iceman' Kazansky. Reports suggest that it made sense that Kilmer returned as Iceman and his reunion with Maverick was one of the most memorable cinematic moments.
Kilmer recently took to his Instagram account to share a promotional clip from Top Gun Maverick where their emotional reunion is highlighted. "36 years later… I’m still your wingman <3," he shared alongside the snap.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Top Gun Maverick has soared past $400 million at the US domestic box office, making it the highest-grossing movie of the year in the US. With $401.8 million in North American ticket sales, Cruise's film has surpassed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'($398 million) to claim the No. 1 spot.
As per reports, it's only the second movie in pandemic times to cross $400 million stateside. The only other film to achieve the feat was Tom Holland starrer Spider-Man: No Way Home.
