Maharashtra witnesses steep rise in single-day Covid-19 cases; Delhi logs 874 infections

Mumbai: Recording a steep rise in single-day Covid-19 cases, Maharashtra on Tuesday registered 3,482 coronavirus infections, with nine patients found to be infected by the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants of SARS-CoV2.
The state recorded 2,369 COVID cases on June 27.
Meanwhile, Delhi logged 874 fresh Covid-19 cases along with four deaths in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra COVID update

Maharashtra's overall COVID caseload increased to 79,68,517 with the addition of the fresh infections. The death toll rose to 1,47,915 as five more coronavirus patients succumbed since June 27. The five deaths were reported from Mumbai (2), and one each in Vasai-Virar civic limits, Satara and Gadchiroli.
According to the state health bulletin, the tally of BA.4 and BA.5 cases rose to 63 in Maharashtra.
"As per the latest report from National Institute of Virology, Pune, seven patients of BA.5 and two of BA.4 variant have been found in the state. Four are from Palghar, three from Raigad and two from Thane," health department bulletin informed.
Six are men and three are women. Except one, all are vaccinated. All cases are asymptomatic and recovered in home isolation. All these samples were collected during May 31 to June 11," it further stated.
The recovery count increased to 77,95,121 as 3,566 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate was 97.82 per cent.

Delhi COVID update

Delhi's Covid case tally climbed to 19,32,900 with the addition of 874 fresh infections. The fatality count went up to 26,260 as four more patients lost their battle against coronavirus.
Currently, the national capital has 4,482 active Covid cases.
According to the health bulletin, 3,354 patients are under home isolation, while the containment zones in the city has gone down to 385 from 389 on June 27.
