Imagine being in a resort on a picturesque island free of cost for a year. Such dreams come with a steep price tag. But you can have it for free if you are selected for Soneva Fushi's new job opening.

The luxury resort, popular for its overwater villas, is currently advertising a vacancy for a “barefoot bookseller” to run its island shop for 12 months. It is now being dubbed the 'best job in the world'.

Passionate book lovers can apply for the year-long contract, which begins in October. It involves moving to the remote island of Kunfunadhoo in the Indian Ocean, according to a report by The Guardian.

The position has been titled 'barefoot bookseller' because all the bookselling in the store takes place barefoot as no shoes are allowed to be worn on the island.

The library belongs to the UK company Ultimate Library. Even though the salary is reportedly about $750 a month, the successful candidate will get to live for free in a deluxe villa.

Accommodation will be free along with all meals for the sole employee of the book shop. He or she will also be allowed to access a gymnasium, a spa, and indulge in watersports.

“The ethos of the island is no shoes, no news. They encourage guests to reconnect with the ground,” said Alex McQueen, spokesperson for Ultimate Library

The book store was created to highlight the natural environment and luxury that Soneva Fushi offers.

“The Barefoot Bookseller has become an integral part of the Soneva guest experience, providing much, much more than reading recommendations," said Sonu Shivdasani, Founder, and CEO of Soneva.

Reports said the placement will begin in October. The selected candidate will need to hold workshops, pop-up events, and creative writing courses for guests.

Other responsibilities of the employee include: Stock management and reporting back on sales, running the Barefoot Bookseller social media accounts.

Candidates need to be 'excellent' in written and verbal English. They must have a penchant for reading with some experience in writing blogs and newsletters.
