The 2022/23 English football season will kick off on Saturday (July 30) with the annual curtain raiser- FA Community Shield. With just a week left for the English Premier League (IPL) season to kick off, defending champions Manchester City will face FA Cup holders Liverpool at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.
While the match is held at London's Wembley Stadium every year, it has been shifted this year because English football's national stadium is set to host the UEFA Women's Euro Final between England and Germany tomorrow (July 31). The last time the Community shield was held away from the Wembley Stadium was in 2012 when Manchester City and Chelsea played each other at Villa Park due to the London Olympics.
With a shortened pre-season as the league is kicking off earlier this year due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place in November/December, this game is crucial one for both sides as they aim to go into the domestic season with all guns firing.
The spotlight will be on Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez in this match. Both City and Liverpool have dominated English football for the last few years by playing a 'false 9' system but this season both have altered ways and purchased two traditional center-forwards.
